German Weeks 2017 in Namibia
The many facets of German culture and German-Namibian cooperation will be on showcase throughout Namibia in September. With the German Weeks 2017, the German Embassy Windhoek is organizing a range of cultural and other events illustrating German-Namibian relations.

German Ambassador Christian-Matthias Schlaga outlines the significance of the German Weeks 2017: ''Together with German and Namibian organisations we will present a colourful programme to showcase Germany as a modern, efficient and diverse country. In addition, the “German Weeks” reflect the continuously expanding German-Namibian relations and their multi-faceted perspectives.''

(© The Global Experience) In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Namibian Independence on March 21, 2015, the concurrent establishment of diplomatic relations with Germany, and to mark the 25th anniversary of German Reunification, the German Embassy Windhoek first organized the German Weeks in Namibia 2015 with the support of local cultural intermediaries, implementing organisations in development cooperation, political foundations and partners with a close affiliation with Germany. The German Weeks ran from March 2 to 17 July 17, 2015 and featured more than 50 events across Namibia.
Enlarge image Compete in the Goethe-Institute's language competition (© Goethe-Institute Namibia) German Weeks 2017 kicks off on September 15 with a Poetry Slam Competition at the German School Windhoek. On the next day the Goethe-Institute Namibia invites Namibia’s best German language learners to its National German Language Competition. The German Career Day at the University of Namibia is an interactive event on September 21, which aims to answer the question on many students’ minds ''So you studied German – Now what?''.
The German-Namibian Development Cooperation will demonstrate their close partnership with a great variety of events throughout the country. On September 22 and 23, lovers of classical European music will enjoy listening to ''German Classic meets Namibia''.
Enlarge image Musical performance by the Proud Nama Footprints (© Proud Nama Footprints) Event highlights in October include lectures in Windhoek and Swakopmund analyzing Martin Luther’s impact on the German Language, a theatre play organized by the Goethe-Institute in Swakopmund, the Day of German Unity and a musical performance by youngsters of ''Proud Nama Footprints'', a project that creates opportunities for the youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
German Weeks 2017 culminates on October 7 with the photo exhibition ''NAMIBIA AND GERMANY ON DIVERSITY'', a project of the German NGO The Global Experience e.V. together with six German and Namibia schools, which will be framed by the concert of a German-Namibian youth choir.
Ambassador Schlaga encourages people to participate with their own events during the German Weeks 2017, by submitting events to the online calendar.
